Bob Jacobs' Fund

It all started in 1985 with one phone call to Mr. Bob Jacobs in Downers Grove from a fellow Kiwanis member in Kansas City.

Bob helped put the assistant mayor, Heinz Steidle from Bietigheim-Bissingen,
a small town in southern Germany together with Alan Roselieb, band leader for
Downers Grove South High School. Funding by the Kiwanis Club of Downers Grove has helped in having families of our band and orchestra students in hosting as many as 75 to 90 students plus adult chaperons since 1993 to Downers Grove.

Since then, the cultural and musical exchange has taken on a life of its own. Their students come to Downers Grove on alternate years with our students traveling to Germany, forging connections for over 1,000 students from both communities over the course of 30 years.

Last year was the ninth District 99 tour to Germany. The ensemble is a District 99 honors orchestra made up of students from both North and South High Schools. Tour directors include Ms. Jennifer Mullen, Mr Craig Roselieb, Mr Brayer Teague and Mr. Glen Williams.

The Kiwanis Club shares Bob Jacobs passion for and belief in what music does for the human spirit and will continue our support for hosting the German Students during their visit. Scholarships for a
