Dear Friends:

On January 19, 2008, First Baptist Church of Downers Grove will be sending out a team of adults on its fourth foreign mission's trip to the Dominican Republic. Once again they have been asked to come back to help with the general construction and to work with the children.

This time they will be completing a second floor addition for a pre-school building in the Palo Blanco "Barrios" (slum area) which have rat-infested shacks with dirt floors and drafty walls made from scraps of wood and tin. This location is about 20 minutes from Jarabacoa, a small village in the center of the Dominican Republic. The area's adults will also have the opportunity to learn to read and write. The team’s projects include painting, plumbing and electrical work. They will also have an opportunity to minister to the children, at the EI Arca orphanage for a couple afternoons.

Doyle Heimann from our Kiwanis Club will go with the First Baptist Church volunteers. He is looking to families and friends from this community to help support the trip in two ways. First and foremost, he request your prayers that the work and time the team puts forth would have an impact on the lives of the children and the community there in Jarabacoa.

Pray for safety in travel as well as health and unity for all team members
Pray for the spiritual growth that every member of the team would experience God more deeply as they serve
Pray for success in accomplishing the task that they set out to do

Finally, Doyle would ask you to prayerfully consider financial support. The total cost for each team member is $1,280, which includes cost for airfare of $504 and $776 for construction materials, insurance, food and lodging costs.
