The Kiwanis Club of Downer’s Grove donated $300 to sponsor needy children in the Humanitarian Service Project’s (HSP) Children’s Birthday Project program. The service club has funded Carol Stream-based charity’s programs that benefit impoverished children, seniors and families in DuPage and Kane counties for more than 15 years. The Kiwanis Club of Downers Grove, whose motto is “Serving the children of the world”, meet Wednesday mornings at 7:30 AM at Dimitri’s Restaurant in Downers Grove.
Karole Kettering, Executive Director of the HSP, said, “We are so grateful for the Kiwanis Club of Downers Grove’s continued sponsorship of impoverished children in our Children’s Birthday Project program. They truly are committed to making life better for children in our community and work tirelessly to raise money and awareness of issues affecting our young people.”
The funds will be used for HSP's Children’s Birthday Project which provides a needy child ages 3-12 with a 25-30 lb. Birthday Box containing 6 new books, 6-15 new toys, stuffed animals, one new game, various other gifts such as bubbles, card games, mini toys, school supplies, and a Party-in-a-Box filled with all the items necessary to have a birthday party. The charity delivers the child’s birthday package the week of their birthday, and provides a memorable “Special Day” for an impoverished child in our community. A sponsorship for a child is only $54 and also includes gifts at Christmas-time, back-to-school supplies, and the child’s family becomes eligible for the HSP’s summer-time Feed the Kids Program as well.

About The Humanitarian Service Project
HSP has been given the
highest Four Star rating by Charity Navigator for the sixth consecutive
year. HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty
creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties,
Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering Project, 1,264
children received gifts and 150 impoverished families received three
weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior
Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal
gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project
reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas
truly memorable occasions for 700 children. Feed the Kids provides
low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an
annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back
to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual
children with necessary supplies.
